A house for spiritual retreats

The Saint-Michel House

On the ground floor of building A, in the wing where the Benedictine nuns lived, near the choir of the chapel of Saint-Pierre.

“Omnes supervenientes hospites tamquam Christus suscipiantur.”
Let all guests who come be received as Christ would be.

Rule of Saint Benedict, chapter 53 (translated by Gasquet)

The Saint-Michel House receives spiritual retreats: a time of silence and prayer, following the liturgy of the chapels. It receives one group at a time.

The rule of the house

The house

A gallery, the former library, the room where the nuns used to meet, then the ante-choir and the chapel: the whole house is on the ground floor, with a common room, close to the choir. It has single rooms and two double rooms. All the rooms are accessible to people with reduced mobility.

Who comes

A parish, a movement, a community, a family, a few people gathered round a priest for a preached retreat. The association can help to find a priest.

The house is a place of prayer; it does not provide medical care or therapeutic support.

Contribution to costs

Guests contribute to the cost of their stay: €60 per person per day, full board, sheets, towels and cleaning included. The local tourist tax is added. If a stay is cancelled, 20 % of its cost is retained.

If the contribution would keep someone from coming, they may say so in confidence: we will see what can be done, within the means of the house.

The name

The association was founded on 8 May 2019, the day on which the Church formerly kept the feast of the Apparition of Saint Michael on Monte Gargano. The house bears the archangel’s name.

Asking for a stay

Write to ac@abbayesaintpierre.org, giving the dates, the number of people, the kind of retreat and, if so, whether you would like a priest to accompany the group.
